TENTAGON

In twenty fourteen, ISIS attacked the Yazidi people in Shingal. Thousands fled. Many walked for days without water or food. Some died. Some were rescued by Kurdish military forces.

The survivors came to Sharya camp in Kurdistan. It is a tent city. For eight years now, these Yazidi families have lived here. Most are women and children. The men sometimes go to nearby cities to find work.

These tents were meant to be temporary. But temporary became permanent. Eight years is a long time to live in a tent.

However, something beautiful happens inside these tents. Families do not accept that a tent is just a shelter. They make it a home. They decorate the inside with colourful fabrics. Each tent becomes unique. Each tent has its own character and beauty.
